Wurts Street Bridge Recognized By American Association Of State Highway And Transportation Officials

Kingston, NY | The Wurts Street Bridge rehabilitation project has been recognized with a prestigious honor in the 2025 America’s Transportation Awards, presented by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). The project was named a northeast regional winner in the “Quality of Life/Community Development, Medium Project” category, highlighting its significant positive impact on the surrounding communities. This award celebrates transportation projects that contribute meaningfully to economic growth, community well-being, and improved connectivity.

M&M provided preliminary and final design services, along with construction support, for this historic bridge project. In collaboration with NYSDOT and historical preservation organizations, M&M expertly integrated essential safety upgrades while preserving the bridge’s historical and aesthetic features. This comprehensive rehabilitation included a deck replacement, roadway barrier replacement, replacement of stringers, strengthening floorbeams, expansion joint replacement, strengthening of main cable anchorages, and replacement of suspender ropes. New ADA-compliant sidewalks, decorative lighting and a dehumidification system for the anchorages were also installed. 

AASHTO, along with AAA and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, sponsors the America’s Transportation Awards to showcase projects that make communities better places to live, work, and play. The Wurts Street Bridge rehabilitation stood out for its role in restoring a historic structure, enhancing safety, and supporting the daily lives of residents in Ulster County, NY.
