NEW ORLEANS | Modjeski and Masters announced its selection for the Transportation Excellence Award from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD). The firm was recognized with the Quality of Life/Community Development Award for its work on the Crescent City Connection Decorative Lighting Project in New Orleans, LA.
Originally constructed in 1958 and twinned in 1988, the bridge’s existing lighting system was outdated and damaged. After performing a feasibility study for the New Orleans Regional Planning Commission evaluating options for improving the bridge’s lighting, LADOTD contracted Modjeski and Masters to lead the design of a replacement lighting system. In only 9 months, M&M’s electrical engineers designed a new system that includes controllable and programmable LED lights on the trusses of the bridges, along with lights that illuminate the piers. The system includes 42 programmable color-schemes.
The Transportation Excellence Awards recognize projects that demonstrate excellence in transportation planning, design, and construction and are presented in conjunction with the biennial Louisiana Transportation Conference. The Quality of Life/Community Development Award specifically recognizes projects that have significantly benefited the community in which they exist, especially in the form of economic growth and well-being of citizens.
