M&M Receives Engineering Excellence Award for West Virginia Project

CHARLESTON, WV | Modjeski and Masters (M&M) is the proud recipient of an Engineering Excellence Award from the West Virginia Department of Transportation Division of Highways (WVDOH). Taking home the award in the Large Bridge Category, M&M was recognized for its work on the Bristol Bridge Project in Bristol, West Virginia.

The annual awards given by the WVDOH recognize outstanding transportation projects throughout the state of West Virginia.

Modjeski and Masters prepared contract plans and related documents for the replacement of the existing Bristol Bridges, which serve as vital transportation links in Harrison County, WV. Operating on an accelerated design schedule, M&M successfully delivered final plans ahead of the designated six-month project timeframe.

“The Bristol Bridge was a challenging project with an exceptionally accelerated schedule. We are proud to be part of the team who worked swiftly to make this crossing safe once again for the residents of Harrison County,” said Thomas Rogers, Vice President and West Virginia Regional Director for Modjeski and Masters. "Receiving this award is not only an honor but also underscores our commitment to being a reliable partner to the WVDOH."

The replacement bridges, spanning 603 feet and 638 feet in the eastbound and westbound directions respectively, are notable for their employment of integral piers, which were utilized to ensure the minimum required clearance over the North Bend Rail Trail. Additionally, a key aspect of the project was a complex maintenance of traffic scheme which utilized temporary median crossovers. This innovative approach facilitated uninterrupted demolition of the existing structures and seamless erection of the new bridges.
