M&M SELECTED FOR ABCD AWARD

MECHANICSBURG, PA | Modjeski and Masters has been honored by the Association for Bridge Construction and Design (ABCD), Susquehanna Chapter. The firm was recognized with the Outstanding New Design Award in the Medium Span Category for its work on the San Bernard River Bridge in Sweeny, Texas.

The Annual ABCD Bridge Awards Program recognizes bridges that have been designed, fabricated, or owned by a member of the ABCD Susquehanna Chapter.

“We’re grateful that our peers in the Susquehanna Chapter recognized our work for Union Pacific on the San Bernard River Bridge project,” said Mike Britt, President of Modjeski and Masters. “Winning these awards demonstrates our commitment to providing unparalleled engineering solutions to our partners in the rail industry.”

The existing bridge’s swing span pivot pier was experiencing movement that compromised its functionality. Modjeski and Masters performed a concept study, provided final design of the new structure, and provided construction support. The new bridge design includes a vertical lift span, plus flanking open-deck through-plate girder spans and ballasted concrete box approach spans to the main span which carries Union Pacific trains over the San Bernard River.
