NEW ORLEANS, LA | Modjeski and Masters recently announced recognition from two organizations for the company’s work on the Sunshine Bridge Emergency Repairs Project. The project won the Transportation Excellence Award in the bridge design project development category at this year’s Louisiana Transportation Conference and received an honor award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Louisiana.
The Louisiana Route 70 Sunshine Bridge is a steel cantilever through truss bridge that carries four lanes of traffic over the Mississippi River. In 2018, a crane-mounted barge collided into the structure causing significant damage to the bridge. The Louisiana Department of Transportation closed the bridge and engaged Modjeski and Masters to begin immediate investigations and repairs. As lead sub-consultant, Modjeski and Masters was responsible for inspection, 3-D bridge analysis, overall quality assurance, peer review, and strain-gauge monitoring.
The annual ACEC Louisiana Engineering Excellence Awards recognize projects that demonstrate an exceptional degree of innovation, complexity, achievement and value, and celebrate the outstanding achievements of the profession. The Louisiana Transportation Conference is a biannual opportunity to recognize special achievements in engineering and construction projects performed by the department and transportation partners as a commitment to improving Louisiana transportation infrastructure.
