San Bernard River Bridge Recognized With RT&S Top Projects Award

MECHANICSBURG, PA | Modjeski and Masters today announced its selection as a Railway Track and Structures Magazine’s (RT&S) Top Project for the Best New Construction (Bridges) category. The firm was recognized for its work replacing the San Bernard River Bridge in Sweeny, Texas.

The existing bridge’s swing span pivot pier was experiencing movement that compromised its functionality. Modjeski and Masters performed a concept study, provided final design of the new structure, and provided construction support. The new bridge design includes a vertical lift span, plus flanking open-deck through-plate girder spans and ballasted concrete box approach spans to the main span.

This is the inaugural year for the Top Project Awards. The awards recognize projects in rail maintenance and construction; bridge maintenance and construction; and technology usage in Class 1, short line, and transit categories.
