Structural Engineer/Scour Specialist Promoted to Project Manager
Modjeski and Masters, Inc. (M&M) is pleased to announce the appointment of Jason W. Miles, PE to Associate. With 10 years of bridge design experience, Mr. Miles will contribute to the firm’s internal leadership in the areas of special projects and bridge scour analysis.
Mr. Miles joined Modjeski and Masters in January of 2009. Since then, he has been involved in a wide variety of special projects, including scour analysis and soil-structure interaction, structural health monitoring, steel truss rating and rehabilitation, and post-collision damage assessment and repairs.
Starting in 2010, Modjeski and Masters has worked with LADOTD to perform structural stability scour analysis on over 200 bridges across the state of Louisiana. Mr. Miles has been heavily involved in this ongoing project and oversees the analysis of the current batch of bridges. He has also been involved in a number of high profile emergency projects, including vessel collisions with both railroad and highway bridges. These projects often include structural monitoring for pier movement, member stress changes, and other effects. Mr. Miles has overseen monitoring system implementation and has used the real-world data obtained to model and assess the structural health of the bridges in question. Additionally, Mr. Miles has design and analysis experience in timber structures, integral abutment highway bridges, deep foundations, and pier protection fender systems.
“Jason has gained extensive experience in scour, integral abutment bridges, timber bridges, special analyses, geotechnical reviews and bridge instrumentation monitoring. He has been successful in managing relatively large and special projects, such as the LADOTD scour project, and his promotion will allow for further increase in the diversity of projects and expansion of our service offerings," says M&M Chairman, Zolan Prucz, PhD, PE.
Mr. Miles has contributed to many notable projects, including:
- LADOTD scour stability analysis of bridges statewide,
- Sunshine Highway Bridge vessel collision damage assessment and repairs,
- Krotz Springs Railroad Bridge vessel collision damage assessment and repairs,
- Design of Gilmerton, VA Vertical Lift Bridge pier protection system
- Analysis of split timber stringers in railroad bridges for Union Pacific
- Long-term monitoring of pier movement of I-20 Mississippi River Bridge
Mr. Miles earned a Bachelor of Arts, Mathematics and a Bachelor of Science, Civil Engineering from Louisiana State University. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Louisiana and is a member of AREMA Committee 7 – Timber Structures.
